Issue 1: February 2008

2/19/08 - If you have not already discovered Harter Supply is now on the web! We launched our website at the end of 2007 and have already witnessed a strong response from our customers and others in the community looking for a Jan/San provider that can provide unique and prompt services that have become unheard of from regional and national suppliers. Having a web presence has opened up a new channel of communication for our customers and suppliers. Now in 2008 we are widening that channel with our monthly newsletter, we do not intend for this newsletter to flood your inbox with another sales pitch for a new product, we all get plenty of those each month. Harter Supply hopes to bring you information pertaining to our industry and yours; which may help you solve problems or bring light to a problem pertaining to the cleaning and maintenance of your facility. We have started tracking unique cleaning strategies and tips we discover from our own customers and want to share them with our whole customer base. These unique tips, strategies or products just might be the answer to your very own daily headache.

Each newsletter will be archived on our website, if one month the newsletter does not pertain to anything of interest but two months later you would like to revisit an issue it can always be found on the homepage.

We hope you are able to gain knowledge and use our newsletter as a tool, if you have a strategy, tip, or unique way you use one of our products we would like to hear about it. Please send any ideas, information, or comments about our web site or newsletter to nchamness@hartersupply.com

Cost Biggest Barrier to Green - According to a survey distributed by ISSA.com cost is the primary reason cited by companies that have yet to switch to green cleaning products. Other responses to this pole question were not that far behind: 28% said that “Green products were not as effective” others replied that “going Green was nothing but hype anyway.”

We at Harter Supply have been making a consistent effort to try and promote Green products because of the cost savings we can provide for our customers that do switch over to a Green cleaning program. As you may have notice on our website we have set a goal for 2008 to get 50% of local schools, community centers, and churches in the Michiana area to switch to Green cleaning products because of the effects traditional cleaning chemicals have on the air quality of our indoor environments. At the 2007 annual Mayors conference in Washington D.C. nearly 94% of our nation’s Mayors said that improving indoor air quality in schools and public buildings was of upmost importance in 2008. For this reason we at Harter Supply are campaigning to get our current customers as well as other facility managers to switch their chemicals to Green Chemicals.

Not only can we save you money by switching to Green products, we are improving the effects hazardous enzymes in traditional products have on the air quality where our children are being educated, our families worship, and other places we spend long periods of time together.

We want to hear from you our customers, why you have not switched to Green products or maybe you have. Please participate in our pole question of the month to the right.

Did you know that there are a number of conditions that can affect the performance of the cleaning chemicals you use?

Perhaps the most common factor that can affect cleaning chemical performance is the temperature of the water it's mixed with. For example, when cleaning a vinyl floor with a finish on it, use a neutral pH floor cleaner with cool water. Never use hot water for general cleaning or it can have an adverse affect on the floor finish.
